[She last watched it while she was still in the Red Room, part of their regular updates on western culture when they weren't in the field. It would be nice to watch it in another context.]
[ Darcy straps herself in. It's not a far drive; she rarely leaves her neighbourhood unless she's heading to work, so they should be at her place in a few minutses. ]
There was a phase where we watched Mrs. Doubtfire over and over again.
[During that mission in Ohio when she and Yelena had experience what it was like to be normal - or sort of normal - for the first time. She remembers that movie fondly.]
Ohhh, that's a good one. And as for favourites, of course there's Disney. And I really love A Knight's Tale.
[ The more she thinks about it, the longer the list in her head gets, so it's best just to stick to a few for tonight. She'd been mainly raised by the tv, like so many millenials were, so she finds there are many shows and movies that she loves. ]
You know, I don't think I've seen A Knight's Tale.
[She distinctly remembers someone trying to explain the plot to her once over too many beers, but they didn't really drive the plot home so much as make a strong case for moderation. And as thorough as the Red Room had been, there's only so much popular culture you can fit in when the rest of the training schedule is so jam packed.
Natasha follows the traffic easily, glancing in the rear view mirror with annoyance when a cab tailgating her flashes his brights. Her voice is dry and amused.] Everyone in this city is always spoiling for a fight.
Okay, we're watching that instead. You have to see a Knight's Tale. It's like. The movie that shaped me.
[ That might be an overstatement, but the sentiment remains. Darcy cannot abide someone not seeing one of her favourite movies of all time, former brainwashing or not. Besides, she's always happy to watch it. ]
Honestly, you're brave for wanting to even drive in this city. I think I would honestly get out of my car and fight someone.
Oh, does this mean I'm about to have a whole of things suddenly make sense?
[The question is delivered lightly, in good humor, and she shoots the other woman a grin. Despite the cab behind them continuing to strobe their displeasure at her going the speed limit, she doesn't seem like she's going to cave any time soon.]
I like driving. Even with the shitty traffic. It helps to know that I have a taser within reach.
[ Darcy is actually pretty excited about a girls' movie night. She doesn't get much of a chance to hang out without women now that Jane is gone. Her field is pretty heavy on the men. ]
Yeah, that would help. Gotta say, tasers sure do come in handy.
[It's all sort of light and joking, but she does mean it. She appreciates Darcy's company. Her own field is pretty heavy on the men. Well. Maybe more accurate to say that her current team is that way.
Natasha knows that she's nearing Darcy's apartment, so she slows down - just a hair - to look for a parking spot. The corner of her mouth ticks up in a smirk with the driver behind her leans on his horn.]
I'm not going to lie and say I'm not enjoying this.
[ Hanging out with Natasha is always fun for Darcy. She has just the right amount of a mischievous streak for them to compliment each other. Darcy's field is also pretty heavy on the men, so it's nice to find someone to spend some time with. ]
No, this is great. The best way to beat New York traffic is to make yourself a nuisance.
He's going to be really disappointed if he decides to get out and start something.
[Like, really disappointed. Natasha doesn't relish the possibility of embarrassing a random driver, but if it teaches him something about road rage, well.]
[ Darcy really loves seeing people get what they deserve, and if this guy wants to be a dick to them, well, she'd love for Natasha to teach him a lesson. ]
We're almost at my place anyway. I bet he'll peel off in a rage once we're off the road.
[Nine times out of ten, that is what people do. Most people don't really want a confrontation. They just want to vent out a little bit of their bad day. She can't say she'd hate to make his worse, but it's not at the top of her list for the evening.]
Either flipping me off or leaning on the horn the whole way. Let's see what he picks.
[She flashes Darcy a grin then pulls the car over to parallel park it into an open spot by the sidewalk.]
You know what I like about you? You like to cause trouble. It's great.
[ Hanging out with Natasha is always a fun time, especially when she's in this kind of mood. Darcy herself likes to get into harmless trouble so this is fun for her. ]
[Lie. Absolute lie. The smirk at the corner of her mouth makes that much apparent.
The driver in the car behind her leans on the horn, and suddenly it seems like Natasha has never double parked a car before. She's navigating her way into the spot at an absolutely glacial pace.]
Even if I didn't know you, I wouldn't believe that for a second.
[ She turns around to look at the other driver, who looks absolutely enraged, and just shrugs at her. There's nothing she can do, not like she would if she could anyway. ]
You sure this spot is good enough? It seems a little tight, [ Darcy jokes. ]
How dare you, I'm a world class liar. [Her voice is all bone dry humor and she gives Darcy a quick, amused glance. Lying is like second nature to her, but that's not the frame of mind she's in tonight.
Apparently, the frame of mind she's in involves fucking with angry drivers.
She can't help but laugh at Darcy's comment.] Shit, you're right. Better start again to make sure I back in right.
[ Natasha is the Black Widow, so it doesn't need to be said that she's a good driver. She could probably manage to squeeze a vehicle twice this big into this spot. This is all purely to annoy the guy behind them, and Darcy would pay good money to see the look on the guy's face when he sees who he's angry at. ]
Gotta be careful not to scratch anything, right?
[ It would be a shame, really, scratching the car. ]
[Her voice fades into a chuckle at the end. She's moving the car at a glacial pace. Continents drift faster than the time its taking her to navigate the wheel around the turn. The driver behind her is going to explode.
And then, once she has the car at the most inconvenient angle, she rolls down the window and sticks her arm out to gesture for the impatient driver to pass.
[ While the window is open, Darcy keeps her expression cool and innocent, like the two of them are definitely not up to no good. As soon as the guy manoeuvres around them, blaring on the horn as he does so, she bursts out laughing. ]
Okay, that was amazing. We should both choose violence more often.
[ Darcy doesn't have fun like this that often anymore, not with all the extra hours she puts in at the lab. That's why she'd been on Tinder in the first place. Needless to say, she's having a ton of fun. ]
[Once the other car has almost literally screamed around them, she gives the wheel a quick turn and backs easily into the space. A smirk is lingering on her lips as she looks over at Darcy.]
Why do I feel like that's going to end in us getting in a bar fight?
Which makes a lot of difference in a bar fight. As long as the Russian mob isn't involved.
[Oh yeah, there's a story there. She climbs out of the driver's seat and follows Darcy into the building. She elaborates as they make their way through the lobby.]
Got recognized while I was meeting with an asset in Belarus. They all kept breaking bottles to threaten us with. It got...comical.
Super sorry, but life is lifing hard for me right now. Are you cool if we suspend this and our other threads? I can hit you up when things settle down a bit :)

[ Darcy asks her with a grin. ] It's pretty much the best feel good movie. And it's old, and cheesy.
